Looking after it

Live monitoring

Most home-grown systems fail quietly. A nightly copy stops, and everything looks fine until a customer rings. We check, so that you don't have to.

Two kinds of watching

Is it working?

Plenty of monitoring tools will tell you a web page loads. That isn’t much use if the page loads and shows last week’s prices. We check the whole chain end to end: the copies and imports ran on time, the key pages and signing in work, the outside services it relies on answer, and any errors in the logs get noticed.

Does the data look right?

A system can be up and running and still have the wrong information in it. So we also set up checks on the data itself, chosen for how your business works. We can look for things like:

  • prices or stock that haven’t updated since the last copy;
  • totals that don’t match between your systems;
  • an order with no delivery address, or a price far outside the usual range;
  • a new administrator or customer account nobody approved;
  • a customer that appears twice.

What you get

  • Checks chosen for your system, agreed with you.
  • A warning to the right person the same day if something stops, slows or looks wrong, saying what’s happened and where.
  • A short monthly note: what we saw, what we did and what we’d change.

The aim is for you to hear about a problem before your customers do. No monitoring catches everything, but it’s a great deal better than finding out from a complaint.

Questions

Do you need an audit first?

We can’t choose useful checks without understanding your system, so it’s usually the natural first step. For a simple system, a short review may be enough, and we’ll tell you if so.

Is this round the clock?

That depends on what we agree. Most small businesses want to know the same working day, and the agreement will say exactly what’s covered and when.
