Looking after it

Cover when the key person is away

Everybody takes holidays, gets ill and eventually moves on. With cover in place, your system doesn't have to stop when they do.

How it works

It’s a monthly retainer. Before anything goes wrong, we get to know your system and write down how to look after it. Then, when the person who built or runs it isn’t there, your team has someone to call who can step in straight away, using the runbook and the access register.

What you get

  • Someone on call, with an agreed response time.
  • A runbook and an access register that we keep up to date, so the knowledge no longer lives in one head.
  • Small fixes made carefully, and written down.

Better for them as well

This isn’t a way of replacing your builder. It may be the kindest thing you can do for them. People who are the only one who can fix something end up taking their laptop on holiday, and answering the phone at a family wedding. Cover means they can really switch off.

The test is simple. Could the person who runs your system go away for a fortnight, without their phone, and not worry? If not, you have a key-person risk.

Questions

What if we don’t need you for months?

That’s the idea. You’re paying for us to be ready and up to date, in the same way as any other cover. We check in regularly, so the runbook doesn’t go stale.

What if the person leaves for good?

You’re in a far stronger position than most, because somebody already understands the system. Here’s what to do when the builder leaves, and if you want, we can take it on.
